Technical expertise

SPG Hydro International: Underwater inspection

Non destructive tests

  • Residual thickness measurements and laminating defects detection.
  • Measurements of the steel thickness on the whole underwater structure: cofferdams, piles, water intakes, ship hulls, etc.
  • Corrosion control by measurements of potential differences of steel.
  • Testing of the cathodic protection effectiveness by imposed current or sacrificial anodes.

Audiovisual tests

Photographic documents
  • 2D and 3D photographs of any structure, under or above water, whatever the visibility conditions.
Video documents
  • Documents with a video camera and a communication system with an intervening party underwater. (Sometimes, these documents are produced from an observation vehicle which controls the camera and the operating arm from the shore).

Technical readings

Most manual technical readings accomplished on the surface are also done underwater such as:
  • Breach readings.
  • Defects.
  • Slopes of walls.
  • Loss of material.
  • Discontinuities.
  • Elevations.
  • Etc.
All technical reports, including readings, drafts, drawings, photographic and video expertise, comments, recommendations and more, are drawn up and approved by the engineers of SPG Hydro.
